Description

Specifically designed for those people who are responsible for providing emergency first aid care for the sick and injured.

Covers the full range of first aid and CPR skills.

Uses lectures, discussions, demonstrations and skills practice to reach a professional level of proficiency.

An excellent training program for law enforcement professionals, lifeguards, firefighters, security, teachers, and others who are responsible for the safety of others.

Meets Department of Transportation standards for emergency response training.

Course includes instruction on:

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) System
Legal and Ethical Issues
Anatomy and Function of Body Systems
Lifting and Moving Patients
Patient Assessment
CPR and Circulation
Medical Emergencies
Triage and Special Rescue Situations

First Responders do not replace paramedics. They provide emergency medical services to victims in need and are an invaluable link to the lifesaving effort. The benefits of this training are measurable by the increased level of service we can provide personally in our own lives as well as to the entire campus. This is particularly important in a major disaster in which local responding agencies may be severely delayed in arriving at Caltech or any other location.

The course contains both a written and practical final exam and is taught by an American Red Cross instructor.

Students who successfully complete the class will receive American Red Cross First Responder Certificates and patches.
