The Caltech International Spouses Club

As it is written in its title, the Caltech International Spouses Club.  mostly addresses his goals to international spouses (means non-native US fellows). Quotation: “We are from different cultures. We speak different languages. But, we share the similar experiences of working to make Pasadena our new home. In the CISC, we share our interests, cultures, life experiences, adventures, and even our grandmothers’ recipes! We help each other with information and nurture our friendships to overcome the difficulties of living in a foreign country, and to make this new life fulfilling and fun. If you find yourself alone while your spouse is busy studying or working in his lab, you are warmly welcomed to join the fun we have here at CISC.”  CISC currently hosts two interest groups that meet regularly, every other week: the Reading Group and the Movie Group.  Please contact us at internationalspousesclub@caltech.edu

English as Second Language (ESL)

There are two ways to learn ESL:

Caltech offers free ESL conversations classes a few times a week to anybody part of the Caltech community (faculty, scholars and spouses/partners).

The Pasadena City College offers an ESL class for free as well, please visit the Community Education Center web site and check the current class schedule.

There is a conversation club for postdoctoral scholars and their families run by a local area church. It’s a very good way to socialize and make new friends. For those interested in more information, we invite you to contact Andy Pearce to be given more details.
