Over the past decade, Dr. Franca Hoffmann has organized numerous workshops and conferences in Africa and taught and supervised students at different African institutions. This involvement grew out of STEM outreach activities that resulted in the foundation of a charity as a means to support local initiatives and to provide the expertise and funding to implement and scale ideas to improve the current state of math education. In 2020, she was elected the Research Chair in Data Science at Quantum Leap Africa, a role in which she set up a new pan-African data science doctoral training program. In the meantime, she founded the Young African Mathematicians Fellowship program in Bonn, Germany, which has now grown into a partnership between all German excellence clusters in mathematics. Dr. Hoffmann is an Assistant Professor in Applied Mathematics at Caltech since 2022, and also currently serves as International Scientific Advisor for the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences. Please, come and hear Dr. Franca Hoffmann's journey in Africa and beyond.
