As a means to curb the spread of the Omicron variant and to protect the community, Caltech's president, provost, and vice president for student affairs announced on December 17, 2021, that the Institute will now require all faculty, students, postdoctoral researchers, visitors, and staff, apart from employees at JPL, to provide proof of having received a COVID-19 booster shot. This also applies to employees working at Caltech's offsite facilities.
All faculty, staff, postdoctoral researchers, and visitors must record their COVID-19 vaccination history, including documentation of a booster dose if currently eligible, through the Caltech Health Portal by January 31, 2022. Those employees not currently eligible will have up to 30 days from their eligibility date to update their vaccination record in the health portal to reflect that they have received their booster dose. Students who were eligible to receive a booster had until January 15, 2022 to upload their documentation.
The health and safety of all members of our community is of primary importance as we move forward in the new year. Masks are no longer required indoors on campus. For spring term, masks will be required in academic settings for the first week, and will be optional thereafter. Individuals who chose to wear a high-quality mask (N95, KN95, or KF94) are encouraged to do so.
As a reminder, all employees who are not feeling well should not report to work, no matter what the illness. All members of the community should record their illness in the COVID-19 Reporting Application. It is important that everyone stay home to fully recover from any illnesses. Please contact the Disability and Leave Unit in HR at email@example.com with any questions about how to record sick time.
The Human Resources offices will continue to restrict walk-in traffic. We will provide services by phone and email and can arrange Zoom meetings for employees or retirees who would like to meet. All services will be available, and all hotlines will be staffed.
