2025 Benefits at a Glance
The Caltech benefits program is designed to provide quality, competitive benefits that are affordable for you and the Institute. Caltech shares the cost of most benefits with you, and gives you the opportunity to supplement your coverage with certain voluntary plans. The program provides a strong base of coverage for you and your dependents, and the ability to choose the plan and the level of coverage that best meet your needs.
Caltech offers benefit-eligible Staff, Faculty, Postdoctoral Scholars a variety of benefit options:
- Medical, Dental, Vision, and Health Spending and Savings Accounts
- Life, Disability and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance
- Childcare benefits, Legal Services, Identity Theft Protection, Critical Illness, Hospital Indemnity, and Accident Insurance

If you are a current benefits-eligible faculty member, staff member, or postdoctoral scholar, find details at the MyBenefits website (Use your Access.Caltech username and password). At MyBenefits, you can also elect your benefits as a new hire, update your elections during Open Enrollment in the fall, or update your elections within 31 days of a qualified life event (such as marriage, divorce, birth, gaining other coverage, or loss of other coverage).

Your health and wellbeing are important to your academic success. That's why Caltech requires that all registered students have medical and dental insurance — either Caltech insurance or other insurance. For medical, your other insurance must meet Caltech's waiver requirements.

2025 Future Retiree Guide
Our retirees are an important part of the Caltech legacy. For that reason, we strive to provide our current and future retirees a sustainable, viable, and quality program of health care benefits.
You are eligible for retiree benefits when you are age 55 or older with 10 or more years of continuous benefit-based service with the Institute. You may also be eligible when you are age 55 or older with 20 years of total service as long as you are a benefit-based employee during the last 12 consecutive months of your employment.
If you are eligible for the Institute's retiree health benefits, Caltech helps you pay for medical, dental and vision coverage for yourself and your eligible spouse or domestic partner. You can choose from a range of Institute-sponsored medical insurance options, including HMO plans through Aetna and Kaiser and PPO plans through Aetna.
Retirement Planning Checklist
- Inform your manager of your intent to retire (in writing) as soon as possible.
- Contact TIAA to discuss your disbursement strategy.
- Request a planning meeting with Caltech Benefits at lease 90 days before you plan to retire.
- Learn about the Medical, Dental, and Vision plans Caltech offers to see if they are the best fit for you.
- If applicable, enroll in Medicare Parts A and B.
- Call the Caltech Retiree Service Center to make your enrollments.
