Caltech Honors Staff Members for Excellence and Dedication

At the 66th annual Staff Service & Impact Awards ceremony, held virtually on June 2, Caltech honored more than 254 staff members for service and contributions to the Institute.

Julia McCallin, associate vice president for human resources, served as master of ceremonies for the event, which underscored the vital importance of Caltech's staff members to the accomplishment of the Institute's scientific mission.

The event, which honored staff members who have served on campus for 10 to 45 years, also included the announcement of two awards, one honoring individual achievement and another recognizing the impact of a team.

Jerry Stewart, facilities maintenance project coordinator, received the Thomas W. Schmitt Annual Staff Prize, which honors a staff member whose contributions "embody the values and spirit that enable the Institute to achieve excellence in research and education."

The award recognized Stewart for his "attention to detail and tenacious chasing down of answers and solutions that earned him a reputation of being the ‘go to' to get something done."

Academic Media Technologies (AMT) won the Team Impact Award, which recognizes "teams that make significant contributions to the work and mission of the Institute," and are able to demonstrate work that has impacted and supported its research or education programs.

The award honored AMT for its work to support, host, and implement all virtual classes, events, and large meetings for Caltech during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Associated Students of the California Institute of Technology Staff Appreciation Award, recognizing the exceptional contributions of Caltech staff members on behalf of the undergraduate community, went to Lee Coleman, clinical director of counseling services, and Alison Tominaga, program coordinator, institutional diversity.
