Academic Visitors

Academic Visitor Program at Caltech

Caltech welcomes academic visitors, including visitors, visiting associates, and visiting professors. These appointments are typically for up to one year, with the possibility of reappointment for a total of up to three years. Such requests should be in the form of a strong, well-documented recommendation and require approval by the Provost.

Visitors are not considered members of the faculty, and this is not a pathway to permanent employment.

Criteria for Appointment:

  1. Nomination: A visitor must be nominated by an active professorial faculty member who will ensure the visit is mutually beneficial.
  2. Established Position: The visitor must have an established position or relationship with another academic or research institution, or other approved organization.

This program fosters collaboration and academic exchange, enriching the Caltech community.

For more information about requirements for academic visitors including criteria, please refer to the Faculty Handbook.
