The Caltech Retirement Program
Caltech offers a 403(b) defined contribution plan to eligible faculty, staff, and postdoctoral scholars. Under this plan Caltech will automatically begin contributing money to a plan account in your name upon meeting the participant requirements. Caltech contributes based on a percentage of your salary and years of service. The plan has a 3-year graded vesting schedule. You can choose from a variety of investment options through TIAA.
Caltech also offers a voluntary 403(b) Plan, to eligible faculty, staff, postdoctoral scholars, and student employees who are on the Caltech payroll. This plan lets you make additional contributions from your paycheck for your retirement savings on a pre-tax and/or Roth after tax basis. You can enroll at any time during the year beginning on your date of hire. Choose how much you want to contribute up to the annual limit. The plan offers a variety of investment options through TIAA and you are 100% vested in your account once you begin participation in the plan.
